newington pavilion

Mediating between a lap pool and tennis court, the black aluminium shingled pavilion provides a moment of shelter and refreshment within a mature 1920s garden. Its burnished charcoal coloured dais provides a venue for hospitality and gathering while gently raising the visitor above the ground plane to offer leisurely views of the garden and the activities around it. Louvre screens can be slid out to provide protection from the afternoon sun, complimenting the large overhanging canopy. Plate steel panels can be slid back within the solid cedar pod to reveal a kitchenette, enriched by Japanese mosaic tiling, and rising above the canopy to allow cool breezes and southern light to wash over its occupants.
