With high Victorian ceilings and period detail, the main rooms of this apartment had a distinctive starting point, however the adjacent enclosed verandah space had been fitted out with only the most basic of amenity arranged along the perimeter walls. The forming of an enclosed butler’s pantry and bathroom allowed the creation a dining area with a permeable interface onto the adjacent courtyard. A ribbon of openable steel framed translucent glazing was introduced along the length of the verandah to wash an even light across the spaces and disperse a gentle tranquility. Restrained detail and a neutral palette has enabled a fluidity between new and historic, complimented by careful selection of furnishings.
